The Stockyards

The Stockyards neighborhood of Cleveland got it's name from the Cleveland Union Stockyards. These stockyards were the home to many different types of animals, that were stored and processed here into meat products sold throughout the country. The cattle and meat processing are long gone, but the name continues.

Today, this Cleveland neighborhood is at the early stages of renewal. Several new housing projects are underway and or completed.

The Stockyards and West 25th Street corridor is undergoing a major transformation. Backed by a $2.3 million loan from the City of Cleveland, local organizations are purchasing and renovating mixed-use commercial properties.

Storer Park received a full $350,000 redesign featuring a new play area, a trail around the perimeter, permanent lighting, and a shaded picnic space. This was spearheaded by local resident Betty Jo Palmer and serves as a catalyst for ongoing neighborhood development. [1, 2]
